Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 2 Activity 1: Giants Among Us

New Zealand has a really special environment. Many of the plants and trees found in New Zealand are not found anywhere else in the world. These plants and trees are endemic to our country.  In New Zealand, one of the largest and longest living endemic trees is the NZ Kauri tree. Kauri are mainly found in three regions of New Zealand: the Coromandel, Auckland and Northland. The largest Kauri tree in the country is in the Waipoua Forest in Northland. It is called Tāne Mahuta. Some people refer to it as the ‘Lord of the Forest.’
Thousands of people go to visit Tāne Mahuta every year. Would you like to be one of those people who got to see Tāne Mahuta in real life? Why or why not?
On your blog, tell us whether you would like to go and visit Tāne Mahuta one day. Be sure to tell us why you do (or do not) want to visit this endemic tree.

I would want to visit the Tane Mahuta one day because it's a part of New Zealand's history, since it's probably thousands of years old. It's the most famous tree in New Zealand. Another reason as to why I would want to visit the huge tree is because I want to compare my height to the tree's.

  1. Kia ora Alex,

It is great that you would like to visit Tane Mahuta! This tree is a magnificent part of New Zealand's history. I think that it would be very interesting to stand at the bottom of it and have a look at how tall it really is. Do you know how tall Tane Mahuta is?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Talk soon,

    Sophie :)

  2. Kia Ora Alex,

Well done for completing this activity. I finished this activity too. It's great to see you completing these activities during these summer holidays. Thanks for sharing your learning about this activity. Did you enjoy doing this task? Why? The image looks nice and tall. Your ideas for visiting the Tane Mahuta are great. I liked it when you said that it is a big part of New Zealand, because that's very true.

    NICE:)
