Activity 1: Fantastic Beasts

In New Zealand we have many unusual animals. One of the most unusual is the kiwi bird - a bird that does not have wings and can not fly. Pretty strange, eh?! J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has recently written a new book about strange or unusual animals called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’
For this activity, please watch this cool book trailer. Year 7 and Year 8 students in South Auckland, New Zealand helped to make it. Once you have watched the video, use your imagination and create your very own beast. What does your beast look, smell, feel, and sound like?

On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.
I call this magical beast a fire pegasus, it eats gold bars for food, it smells like burnt toast, it feels like warm coal, it sounds like a cow and looks deadly.

  2. Kia ora Alex,

Another great blog post from you! I like how you described your beast in lots of detail using some great similes. The Fire Pegasus looks like a majestic beast! Does it breath fire?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Talk soon,

    Sophie :)

  3. Kia Ora Alex,

Well done for completing this activity. I finished this activity too. It's great to see you completing these activities during these summer holidays. Thanks for sharing your learning about this activity. Did you enjoy doing this task? Why? Your beast is amazing. "WOW". It looks very creative. I love the creative skills that you've used to create this fantastic beast. The colours match this beast. I also love the fire. By the way, what does the fire represent?

    NICE:)
