Activity 2: The Secretive Skink

We have a number of small lizards (geckos and skinks) living in New Zealand. One of the least common is the Chevron Skink. According to the Department of Conservation, Chevron Skinks live mostly on two islands - Great Barrier Island and Little Barrier Island. These islands are ‘animal reserves.’ Very few people, other than staff working for the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC), are allowed to live there. The DOC staff are called ‘Rangers.’ Their job is to protect the wildlife (animals and plants) living on the island.
Would you like to be a DOC ranger and live with the animals on Great Barrier Island?
On your blog list three pros (good things) and three cons (bad things) about working as a DOC ranger. At the bottom of your post, tell us whether you would like to be a DOC Ranger or not.

Good Things:
1: You get to stay with animals.
2: You can explore the wildlife.
3: Sightseeing
Bad Things:
1:No fast food.
2:No internet
3:Not many people to talk to.

I wouldn't want to be a DOC ranger because I'd want to visit my family every now and then.

  1. Kia ora Alex,

I have enjoyed reading about the pros and cons of being a DOC ranger in this blog post. The DOC rangers do such an amazing job at protecting the New Zealand wildlife. You have made a very good point that being a DOC ranger would be a difficult job due to being so far away from your family. It would definitely get lonely. What is your favourite animal?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Talk soon,

    Sophie :)

  2. Kia Ora Alex,

Well done for completing this activity. I finished this activity too. It's great to see you completing these activities during these summer holidays. Thanks for sharing your learning about this activity. Did you enjoy doing this task? Why? Your listed pros and cons are amazing. I love them. They are stated correctly and amazingly. I mostly disliked it when you said no internet, because I love internet. How about you?

    NICE:)
