Activity 2: You are my Sunshine

People in New Zealand love spending time outdoors. Unfortunately, the sun is very powerful and the rates of skin cancer are incredibly high in New Zealand. In fact, they are higher than anywhere else in the entire world! To protect ourselves against skin cancer, we need to be careful about how much time we spend in the sun. We have to be ‘Sunsmart.’

Read the Sunsmart website.

On your blog, list five different things that we can do to protect ourselves from the sun this summer!

1. Wear a hat.
2. Wear sunglasses.
3. Stay under shade.
4. Wear long sleeved shirts.
5. Put sunscreen on.

  1. Hi Alex,

Thank you for sharing some useful tips on how to protect ourselves under the hot sun. All of the points you've mentioned are very important because they are meant to protect different parts of our body. For example, sunglasses protect our eyes from both UVA and UVB light. Have you ever heard of these lights before? If you haven't, you could do a quick research to find out what they are!

Do you usually like to stay inside or outside during summer? I cannot stand the heat inside my room on a hot day so I always tend to go out on spontaneous adventures. What is your favourite nature spot to visit? You should also tell me about your favourite summer activity!

    Happy blogging,
    Susie
