Aotearoa New Zealand is home to many spectacular sights and natural wonders. One of these is the Punakaiki Rocks and Blowholes located on the West Coast of the South Island. The Punakaiki rocks attract tourists from all over the world who are keen to see these amazing rock formations. Many people think that they look like pancakes stacked on top of one another. Pancakes are one of my favourite foods! They are delicious and pretty easy to make.
For this activity you are asked to choose one of your favourite foods. On your blog, write the name of your favourite food and then tell us how to make it. You may need to ask a family member, friend or Google (!) for help, if you do not normally make this food for yourself.
My favourite food would be Pavlova, I like it because it's soft and melts in your mouth.
Ingredients:
4 egg whites
1 1/4 cups (275g) caster sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornflour
500ml thickened cream
6 kiwifruit, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup blueberries
Directions:
Preheat oven to 150 degrees C. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Draw a 23cm circle on the paper.
In a large bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Gradually add in the sugar, about 1 tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until thick and glossy. Gently fold in vanilla extract, lemon juice and cornflour.
Spoon mixture inside the circle drawn on the baking paper. Working from the center, spread mixture toward the outside edge, building edge slightly. This should leave a slight depression in the center.
Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a wire rack.
In a small bowl, beat cream until stiff peaks form; set aside. Remove the paper and place pavlova on a flat serving plate. Fill the center of the pavlova with whipped cream and top with kiwifruit slices and blueberries.

I used a recipe from a website since I don't know how to make pavlova.
Hey there Alex, it's Billy here again from the SLJ team.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a recipe for your favourite food, Pavlova. Did you know that the Pavlova was invented in New Zealand? Yum, blueberries are delicious and an excellent choice for a topping. Would you put any other fruit on top? Often people put kiwifruit and strawberries on top of their Pavlovas.
Did you and your family make one for Christmas?
What other food did you have at Christmas time?
Thanks, Billy.
