Activity 3: Going, going….gone

Over the years, scientists have made some surprising discoveries. One of
these discoveries is that we have entire cities (e.g. Jakarta, Indonesia and Venice, Italy) that are slowly sinking into the ocean. Scientists believe that, one day, the cities will disappear completely under the water. Yikes!
Some of the residents (people living in the cities) have taken pictures of their neighbourhoods and written stories about their lives in order to make a record of what ‘life was like’ in their city before it disappeared.
Let’s imagine that New Zealand was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean next week (Eek!). Before it sinks you are asked to write a blog post telling people what life was like in New Zealand in 2018.

On your blog, post a description of life in New Zealand in 2018. Please remember that the people who read your post will have never been to New Zealand or even seen a picture so it is your job to ‘paint a picture’ of New Zealand using your words. You can also post pictures, if you wish. Be sure to fully attribute the pictures.

In New Zealand you can visit the huge city of Auckland which is nicknamed the city of sails, you can explore the bush, go hiking in the forests, take a look at the geysers and admire the huge waterfalls. There are heaps of places to go and visit, like the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Kelly Tarlton's and Rainbow's End. There are many different types of people in New Zealand, and to reference a song, it's a melting pot of cultures.

  1. Kia Ora Alex,

I’m Dani a blog commenter for the Summer Learning Journey. I normally spend my time in the Kaikohekohe cluster but we thought it for be a great idea for me to come and check out the awesome blog posts in the Manaiakalani cluster.

You are right that there are lots of great things that you can do in Auckland. I really enjoy living in our melting pot of cultures. I have a friend that grew up in a small town in the United States of America and she said that there were only people from the same culture as her in her town. She was surprised when she came to Auckland that we were such a multicultural city. What’s your favourite thing about living in Auckland? My favourite thing is having a range of different cuisines that I can sample!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani

  2. Malo E Lelei Alex,
Great job for completing this activity. I finished this activity too. It's great to see you completing these activities during these summer holidays. Thanks for sharing your learning about this activity. Did you enjoy doing this task? Why? Your description about New Zealand is great. Nice for adding the name City of Sails into your description. I enjoyed reading about New Zealand being 2018. If you were to write something for 2019, what would it sound like?

    NICE:)
