Activity 1: Predator Free 2050 – A Call to Arms

There is currently a huge drive to get rid of all predators from New Zealand. Predators are animals that, in some way, damage our natural environment. Many organisations are working hard to accomplish this goal.

Click on the links below to watch videos about three of the current projects operating to make New Zealand ‘Predator Free by 2050.’
Predator Free Video #1: Cacophony Project
Predator Free Video #2: Taranaki Mounga Project
Predator Free Video #3: Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP)

On your blog, tell us which one of the videos you liked the best and why..
The video that I liked most was the first one because it's about a guy who invents traps that use sound and food to help get rid of predators.

  1. Kia Ora Alex,

Well done for completing this activity. I finished this activity too. It's great to see you completing these activities during these summer holidays. Thanks for sharing your learning about this activity. Did you enjoy doing this task? I chose the same video too, because of the inventions that he made. I love the phone one that he created too.

    NICE:)

  2. Kia ora Alex,

I am enjoying reading over these blogs posts of yours!
I also really enjoyed ‘The Cacophony Project’, I believe they can truly help our birdlife in New Zealand. Yes the project works closely in developing new technologies such as the project that uses sound to get rid of predators. They also work closely with monitoring the bird songs to measure the impact! I learnt this of their website https://cacophony.org.nz/
Do you have any ideas that ‘The Cacophony Project’ could use? Let me know in the comments!

Keep up the awesome work! Don’t forget that you can get extra points by posting meaningful, thoughtful and positive comments on any other bloggers post!

    Cheers,
    Georgia E

  3. Hi Alex,
I picked the same video as you, and I think that with the help of technology, it can help us catch the pests quicker. Do you think that with the help of technology we can catch predators faster?
Keep up the good work :)
