Summer Learning Journey: Week 4 Day 1

For this activity, design a book cover for your favourite book. You will need to think about what needs to be on the cover (the title, author, illustrator), pictures, colour, etc. Please create all of the images yourself (draw or photograph) rather than using images that you find online.

On your blog, share the book cover you have designed.

For this activity, we would like you to learn more about ‘Shakespearean English’ - the version of English that Shakespeare used to write his plays. To do this, please write a short recount about what you did this morning in regular (2019) English, and then use this translating tool to turn it into Shakespearean English.

On your blog, share both your English and Shakespearean translation of your recount.

For this activity, we would like you to imagine that you have a diary. In your diary please write a story about your most extraordinary day. What happened? You can tell us about an actual event or you can make one up. It’s totally up to you! Please be as creative as you can.

On your blog, post a diary entry about your extraordinary day. Please start your post with the words “Dear Diary”.

Dear Diary,
Today I woke up at 7:00 in the morning had a shower and then ate breakfast. After that I brought my computer out, started doing the summer learning journey, and have been ever since. I'm getting hungry so I'll take a break and eat lunch in a few minutes.

  1. Hey Alex,

Great to see the thought you put into each task even though you had to do a whole lot in a short time.

    Activity 1: Rags to Riches

Wow, great work with the cover recreation, must have taken a long time to position all of the money shapes and you did a great job recreating the boy. Do you have some tracing or Photoshop skills I don't know about? I'd love to know what program you made this in.

I really like how you'rs has it's differences and has it's own slightly different design with the bed and the car wheel.

    Activity 2: Romeo and Juliet

Wow, considering when you posted this task that's a really impressive amount of work done between breakfast and now. I like these Shakespearean translated task because they sound funny, especially the more you write. If you ever do read Shakespeare it's much easier to understand than this and this isn't too hard. I'm mostly just trying to present lots of words here for the translation below.

Wow, consid'ring at which hour thee post'd this task yond's a very much impressive amount of w'rk done between breakfast and anon. I liketh these shakespearean did translate task because those gents soundeth comical, especially the m're thee writeth. If 't be true thee ev'r doth readeth shakespeare t's much easi'r to und'rstand than this and this isn't too hard. I'm mostly just trying to presenteth lots of w'rds h're f'r the translation below

Activity 3: The Diary of Anne Frank

Good on you to take breaks, The SLJ was designed to be completed a little bit at a time so doing weeks of activities in a day has got to be tiring, get a little boring and probably not to great to be stuck to a chair all day. I know because that how I've been these last weeks replying to all the comments in Kootuitui.

There isn't too much in your diary post, but I appreciate your honesty and am glad you didn't just reuse the English translation of the previous task.

    See you in the comments.

    Daniel :)
