Summer Learning Journey: Week 2 Day 1

For this activity, create a list of your ‘Top 5’ favourite things to do and take a photo of yourself doing each of these things.

On your blog post both your list and your photos of your favourite things.

1. Sleep
2. Play Football
3. Read
4. Play Games
5. Watch YouTube

For this activity, we would like you to calculate Jessa’s age when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. She was born on 7 April 1985 and she received the award on 9 July 2010. Please provide the answer to this question in years, months and days (eg. 20 years, 6 months and 2 days).

On your blog, please post both your final answer and an explanation of how you solved this maths problem. You could write your explanation, or use screencastify to record yourself explaining how you solved it.

I worked this out by subtracting the years and then the months:
2010 - 1985 = 25 Years
7 + 16 = 23 days
May (31)
June (30)
July (9)
= 23+31+30+9= 93
And then you split the days into the following months.
April (30 days)
May (31 days)
June (30 days)
93 - 91 = 2
So the answer is 25 years, 3 months and 2 days.

For this activity, please write a letter that includes the issue you have chosen, why you have chosen it, and what you would like our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, to do about it. It is your job to persuade us (and her!) that it’s an important issue.

On your blog, share your letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Hello, my name is Alex.
I'd like you to think about how many men, women and children live in poverty. Coming from a middle class family, I don't know much about not having enough money for food every week, or not being able to celebrate many events due to a lack of funds, but that doesn't change my point of view. Labour's housing plan failed miserably; hundreds if not thousands of families are still homeless, living on couches, in cars or shelters. You've most likely already been told this, but, an extra reminder always helps.
Thanks,

  1. Morena Alex,

It is so great to see that you finished the Summer Learning Journey programme! Jordan told us that you did this in one sitting, that is pretty impressive. Did you enjoy this year’s programme? We would love to hear your thoughts.

You have really gone above and beyond with this activity! I really appreciate the time and effort you’ve taken to add all these pictures of you doing your favourite activity. Your number 4 is also one of my favourite things to do ‘watching YouTube or movies’! I especially love doing this with my siblings. We usually have movie nights over the summer break because we’re not usually at home at the same time! What’s your favourite movie?
You’re right she was 25 years of when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. Well done by doing the days as well. You are really clever.

Remember this is the last week of the Summer Learning Journey, so make sure you keep commenting back to other students! You will be awarded 2 points for your comments. Here is a link that teaches you what a comment should be like https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/cybersmart/commenting

    Blog you later!
