Week 4 day 5 activity 2

For this activity had to write down 2 things I learnt about the country I chose.

1. Most English people eat a full English breakfast.
2. England doesn't have a national day.

  1. Hey Alex
Those are really interesting facts. I wonder why England doesn't have a national day. Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi Alex,

I must admit that, like Daniel, I also wonder why there is no national day in England. It's a very patriotic country so you would think that they'd celebrate their origins with a special day. Perhaps they struggled to find a single day that captured the 'birth' of the nation. It is easier for those of us living in Commonwealth countries because we have a specific date when we broke away from England and became our own, independent country. I suppose that England has never had that, have they?

    Cheers, Rachel :)

  3. Hi Alex,

Wouldn't it be interesting to visit a country as ancient as England? It's so old that it doesn't have a particular day as a 'national' day. That's amazing!

What is your favourite national holiday in your country? I was visiting Auckland on Anzac Day last year and it was very special - there were special services taking place all over the city at different memorials. It was wonderful to see everyone from school students to older people all gathering together on that day.

In Canada we have "Canada Day" which takes place on July 1st each year. It's the day on which we celebrate the joining of the first 4 provinces to form our country. We celebrate with fireworks, picnics and barbecues, and entertainment. It's a very fun day!

I hope you've had fun this summer!! Good luck returning to school this week!
