Holiday Reading Challenge Week 4 Day 5 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the fifth day of the fourth week, for it I had to describe what New Zealand would look like in the future.

I think that most of it would've sunk underneath the sea because we're kind of close to Antarctica and so when the ice melts lots of water will probably flood the whole island. The government would've probably prepared in advance though, by either evacuating everyone or maybe building a new city out of tubes or something so people could live in them.

Today I did the second activity for the fifth day of the fourth week, for it I had to choose one of three cars that I would choose if I could.

I would choose the one in the middle because the one on the left doesn't have a roof so if it rains I'll get soaked, I wouldn't choose the one on the right because although it can fly it may malfunction or I might lose control since it's entirely futuristic and nobody's done any safety tests. Another reason to not choose the flying one would be the wings sticking out, what if you hit something? You'd most likely then just plummet to the ground spinning in a circle because it wouldn't have any balance.

Today I did the first activity for the fifth day of the fourth week, for it I had to say what I'd like to do when I finished school.

I want to go to a university because then I'll have higher chances of getting a well paying job so then I can help my family out more.

Today I did the bonus activity for the fourth day of the fourth week, for it I had to write down the name, writer and lyrics of my favourite song.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 4 Day 4 Activity 2

Today I did the first activity for the fourth day of the fourth week, for it I had to watch a bit of country calendar and then give two reasons on either why or why not I'd want to be a farmer when I'm older as well as saying what would be some of the most interesting/challenging things to about being a farmer.

One of the most interesting and challenging things about being a farmer is that if a disease or something else that affects your crop happens most of the time you have to replace everything.

I wouldn't be a farmer because, even though you can earn a lot of money having to wake up early and do lots of things as well as going to sleep late and always being tired are not things that I think that I could handle.

Today I did the first activity for the fourth day of the fourth week, for it I had to answer some questions about the movie called Moana.

1. What is it about?
It's about an adventurous teenager who sails out to sea in an attempt to save her people, on the way she meets the Demi-God Maui and the two of them team up to save the world from evil.
2. Who are the main characters in the movie?
Moana and Maui.
3. What do they do in the movie?
They travel across the world to return what Maui stole from a god to give to the humans.
4. Where do they go?
Across the pacific ocean.

I chose to have lots of tables and chairs as well as beanbags.

Today I did the first activity for the third day of the fourth week, for it I had to choose two people who I would form a coalition "government" along with answering why.

I would choose my two brothers because they're older than me and Thomas is smart while Daniel is a leader.

Today I did the bonus activity for the second day of the fourth week, for it I had to research one of nine dancing styles and then write down three interesting facts about it.

The dance that I chose to research is called the tango.

1. It originated from the 1880s.
2. The tango was originally danced in Argentina and Uruguay.
3. The tango is a dance that has influences from African, Native American and European culture.

Today I did the second activity for the first day of the fourth week, for it I had to pretend that I was given 300 million dollars and then say what I'd do with the money.

I would buy my parents a new house and then pay off the mortgage, I would then buy my Mum a car so she could use it to lean to drive. After that I'd buy some things for my brothers and then just save the money in a bank for emergencies.

My family and I usually just go to a fast food shop but if it's really special we sometimes spent time with our relatives and my Mum might bake something sweet like a pineapple pie or a cake.

Today I did the bonus activity for the fifth day of the third week, for it I had to say whether or not I think that students should pay tuition fees.

I think that students shouldn't pay the fees because it's wrong to force someone to pay for their education, I also think that there shouldn't be fees because when they get older and find a job won't their taxes pay off the same amount over time?

Today I did the first activity for the fifth day of the third week, for it I had to pretend that I was going to go hike the Tongariro Crossing and then list five things that I would take with me on my trip.

1. Food/Water.
2. Extra Clothing.
3. Tents.
4. Rope.
5. Lighters/matches.

I also had to learn about how to stay safe while hiking.

1. Plan the trip (Set courses, ask guides etc).
2. Tell someone close to you about where you're going.
3. Be aware of the weather.
4. Know your limits.
5. Take enough supplies.

Today I did the bonus activity for the fourth day of he third week, for it I had to pretend that I was someone called Scotty Morrison and I was able to interview anyone that I wanted to.

I would interview Steve Hansen because he coaches the All Blacks and I'd ask him about how he gets the players out of their beds for training, and if they come voluntarily or if they have to be given a wake up call.

Today I did the second activity for the fourth day of the third week, for it I had to say where I would go if I was a student in the 1980s doing the Big OE (Big Overseas Experience).

I would go to London because then I could see Big Ben, the London Eye and also see how rainy it is there.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 3 Day 4 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for the fourth day of the third week, for it I had to continue on the first sentence from one of the books called Hairy Maclary- the continue on had to be at least 8-10 sentences long for full points.

“Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, running to the place where he always meets his friends. When he passed the scary tom cat he squealed in fear and when he heard familiar barking he knew that his friends were near. After they'd all run around all of the dogs then decided to lie underneath a shady tree, and so when they finally had enough energy it was almost the afternoon. They all then ran to hot dog stands and begged for sausages, strips of meat at butcheries and anything else they liked. When they finally had full stomachs and were quite content they then lay down for a bit to rest their food and then started a game of "tag". While they were playing they didn't notice that they were being watched carefully by the scary tom cat who they all knew too well as... Scarface Claw! They then started to head home because as time had flown it was now nearly dark! They all quickly rushed home, tearing through alleyways and crashing into anything in their way. Every single one of them made it home without any interference.. all except for Hairy Maclary who accidentally ran straight into Scarface Claw, the two of them crashed loudly onto the ground and in a flurry of claws and barking Hairy Maclary found that he then had a burning pain in his bottom. He then quickly rushed home and with the loving care of his owner he was quickly patched up.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 3 Day 3 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the third day of the third week, for it I had to write a petition for kids to learn Maori in school that was also polite and respectful.

To whoever it concerns
I ask of you to allow children to learn Maori in their schools, the reason for this is because then children could be able to learn a language that isn't English. I am also asking you to do this because it provides new learning opportunities, for example the children could try to speak to each other using Maori and then bring the language back to their houses and try to teach their relatives.

Today I did the second activity for the third day of the third week, for it I had to write down two things that I like and don't like about the fashion back in the 1970s.

Things that I like:
1. I like how the T-shirts have chest pockets.
2. I also like how the collars on the T-shirts are pretty big too.
Things that I don't like:
1. I don't like how they're button T-shirts because I like zips.
2. I also don't like how the T-shirts only come in long sleeves.

Today I did the second activity for the second day of the third week, for it I had to read a bunch of text and then write down 3 interesting facts that I found from it.

1. People go crazy when their favourite singers come to their country.
2. The Beatles were really well known, even in a small country like New Zealand.
3.  People have to have secret entrances just in case something bad happens or even if it's just singers hiding from their fans.

Today I did the first activity for the second say of the third week, for it I had to say what my favourite TV show was, who the main characters are, what it's about and what channel it's on.

The TV show that I like the most is the big bang theory, it's basically a comedy that's based on some scientists and they're lives. The main characters are Sheldon, Raj, Howard, Leonard, Penny, Amy and Bernadette. The series is on channel two.

Today I did the second activity for the first day of the second week, for it I had to read through a list of names that were usually given to babies in the 1950s and then say if any of those names are still popular in my school.

The list of names for girls are:
Christine, Susan, Margaret, Judith and Jennifer.
The list of names for boys are:
John, David, Peter, Michael and Robert.

In my school there's one boy called David and another called Peter, I don't think any other kids in the school have one of the names above.

Today I did the first activity for the firs day of the third week, for it I had to say whether or not I like the meat and three veg rule.

I like it because that means that you can have a balanced diet, not too much meat and not too many vegetables. Three is a reasonable amount for vegetables, if you added lots more most kids wouldn't eat their meals.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 5 Bonus Activity

Today I did the Bonus activity for the fifth day of the second week, for it I had to say what my favourite sweet/dessert was, google the recipe and then put the recipe onto my blog along with a picture.

My favourite sweet item/dessert is sponge cake, the website that I got the recipe off of is this one. The photo was taken by La-Fontaine, Image free to the public.

1. Heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
2. Line two 18cm/7in cake tins with baking parchment
3. Cream the butter and the sugar together until pale. Use an electric hand mixer if you have one.
4. Beat in the eggs.
5. Sift over the flour and fold in using a large metal spoon.
6. The mixture should be of a dropping consistency; if it is not, add a little milk.
7. Divide the mixture between the cake tins and gently spread out with a spatula.                                                                                   Bake for 20-25 minutes until an inserted skewer comes out clean.                                                                                                   Allow to stand for 5 minutes before turning on to a wire rack to cool.
8. Sandwich the cakes together with jam, lemon curd or whipped cream and berries or just enjoy on its own.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 5 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity in the fifth day of the second week, for it I had to compare two styles from now and the 1940s and then say which style I liked better and why.

I like the modern style because you can have long sleeved and short sleeved unlike back when your t-shirts only can as long sleeves, I also like the modern style because the clothes look thinner which would make it a lot better in the summer or on hot days.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 5 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for the fifth day of the second week, for it I had to pretend that I was alive when VE (Victory in Europe) day happened and then write down what I'd do to celebrate.

I would go and buy some fizzy drinks and chocolate to do share with family members, I'd also run around and jump up and down on my trampoline. After that my family and I'd probably go to some other place like the pools to have fun, and then when it gets late I'd stay up until it was really late and then finally go to sleep.
