Room 7's Zoo Trip

Yayyy!!!! I said because on Thursday 7th of May 2015 nearly all of the Students at Panmure Bridge School and the parent helpers for the classes went to the Auckland Zoo on five buses. Room 7’s helpers were Emmy (My Mum), Amelia (Juliet's Aunty), Diana (Shailah’s Sister) and Mrs Linda. I was really excited about it because I wanted to see the monkeys and orangutans that were there. When we all got there we waited for Room 3 to get out of the bus then we got out. Miss Paton did the roll. After that we went into the Zoo and the guide people told us to sit down and wait until we were told when the classes get their guided tour. Our one was at 12:30pm. When the classes were told when their tour began the teachers took the students away to look at the animals. Miss Paton took Room 7 underneath a tin elephant. When all of Room 7 was under it we took some photos.

Then Miss Paton took us through the Pride lands and we saw two giraffes. One was the mother and the other was the baby. The mum was eating the grass that was in a box. After that when we kept walking on this path. We saw a Springbok, Zebra and an Ostrich while we were walking on the wooden bridge.

Then after that we saw a Rhino it was
Photoso skinny and didn't move much. You could see it’s rib cage. After we passed the Rhino we saw the Flamingoes. One of them was in the water bending down eating all the tiny fish that were in the water and others were asleep.

When we passed the Flamingoes we saw two Lions. They were both female and they looked really sad.

Then Room 7 saw the elephant called Burma. Miss Paton then told us that we were going to have our morning tea under the shelter that was beside Burma’s enclosure. After we all ate our morning tea we packed up and put all our rubbish into the bins that were right around the corner on the left. When all the rubbish was in the bins we started to walk along the trail again.

After that we saw five Tortoises. One of the two were in the little shelter and the other one was on the corner. The Tortoises were eating vegetables and weeds. They were really slow but their shell protected them from nearly all the dangers that could hurt them.

Next up we saw the Leopards. We didn't see them walk around. All they did was sleep. They were not running around or moving slowly. They just slept so we decided to move on from them.

After we moved on from leopards we saw the Baboons. I liked the baby Baboon because the dad held its tail while it walked down the rock. The dad was holding its tail so the baby didn't go very far down.

We then saw a Lizard. It was sitting on the corner of the wall hiding.

After the Lizards, Room 7 saw the Seals. Two of them were swimming and showing off but there were two more lying down on the rocks.

When we passed the seals, we saw three penguins. They didn't come out from under the boat so we didn't get a good look at them.

After we passed the Penguins we saw the Meerkats. They weren't there, when we first looked but as soon as we looked again they all came running out from a hole in the side of the wall like a stampede. Some of them climbed up the trees that were in their exhibit. Me and some other people went into the Meerkat tunnel. It was really cool because you could see the Meerkats really close up like they were in your face.

PhotoAfter we saw the Meerkats we turned around and saw Burma the Elephant walking down the path I think they take her for a walk every day.

Next up we saw the Orangutans one of them was sleeping under a blanket and others were walking and sitting on the grass.

There was also an arm length thing you could see how long the Orangutans arm were and how long your arms were.

We then saw a Crocodile it was lying down. It didn't move and mysteriously I don’t know why but there was an apple next to its tail.

When we passed the crocodile Miss Paton said to us we are going to have lunch under the Band Rotunda in the middle of a circle field.

After that we started to walk towards the central lawn because that was where we our tour started from. When we got there, the tour people went to the classes that they were going to do a tour with. Our guide was a lady called Laura. She took us to the Orangutans. She took us around a corner that led to a different path. We walked up and we saw the names of the Orangutans. I don’t remember many of them but the two I remembered were

called Wanita a female and the male called Charlie. Laura did some fun activities with us. She chose De Niro as volunteer to pick up a plastic apple with his shoe. He managed to get it into the air. Then she said he could do the next thing. She said the Orangutans have thumbs and the Spider Monkeys don’t and that’s why the Zookeepers put food in a blanket that has both of its sides tied in knots. She asked De niro to hold a rolled up blanket that was tied on both sides and then she asked Mele to hold another one. She then said that Mele was a Spider Monkey and De niro was a Orangutan, Laura said that Mele couldn't use Her thumb to untie the knot but De niro could because He was a Orangutan and Orangutans had thumbs when She said ‘Go’ He finished first because he could use his thumb.

Laura then took us to the tigers one of the tigers sat right next to us and started to lick its paws Laura also showed us a video of a male tiger jumping up the giant pole that’s on the left side of the enclosure when we finished our tour it was time to go back to school we went through the exit door and got on the buses and went back to school we were all tried and since my Mum was at school I got to go home early.
